Hello forums members. I really don't want this to seem like a stupid question. I would like to be pointed in the right direction, and not flamed. I am having the hardest time getting remote access to work on my router. I would like to have it enable so that I can login from work, and use the WOL feature to wake my pc up, so that I can vnc to my pc.

my question is, after enable 'Remote Access' under Management. Do I need to do something special to make it work? I have tried several time to connect to my router from my neighbor's computer. I've been unsuccessfully every time.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated...

Some ISPs block incoming port 80 (for example Verizon DSL if I remember correctly), so you could try some other random port ...

I assume that you know your router's outer IP address. If it is not static you will need to set up the DDNS service.

Relating to port 80 many cable providers who provide biderectional speed access (vs. ADSL) block port 80. Port 8080 works always though, I would go for that if I were you.

I have a dns service already.I use wonderful DNS feature in the DD-wrt firmware, to keep my IP address up to date with their server, I use dyndns dot org. This is what I do, username.dyndns dot org:8080 and I am unable to connect. I use my physical IP address and still no luck. I am going to try a different port number and see if that works.

Can be, though it is an unusual practice. Normally they block port 80 because they want to disrupt the users to set up web hosting services due to the high symetrical upload bandwidth that cable internet has.

Anyway, the best thing is trial and error.

Thanks guys for all the insight. After a goodnight rest, I work up and had an epiphany, I changed the default port to 1979. I can now log into my router with no problem and wake my PC up.
username.dyndns.org:1979 works just fine, I guess you guys were really on to something maybe my ISP does block the 8080, 80 port.

Thanks again...
