Anyhow, I'm running an ASUS N65U Wireless router as my main router. The settings of it are:
IP: 172.16.100.1
SN: 255.255.240.0
DNS & WINS (my local domain dns server)
WiFi SSID: MyWiFi
WPA2 Personal: 16 numerical password
Channel: Auto
I gave my WRT54GL the settings of:
IP: 172.16.100.2
SN: 255.255.240.0
GW: 172.16.100.1
DNS: 172.16.100.1 (I also tried 100.10, still don't work)
Wireless Settings: same info as Asus Wifi network
Channel: Auto
DHCP is off and all the other check boxes and settings that was said to do in the wiki there I did. Rebooted router and for whatever reason I simply cannot ping the Asus Router. The computer my WRT54GL is connected to (on any port 1-4) will simply not receive a DHCP address from the Asus router. The only way I can get connected back to my dd-wrt is to statically assign a 172 address to it manually, and still I can't hit the internet.
Anything I'm doing wrong here, I don't get why this won't work.
the first thing that looks not right is that you need to set the channels not to auto but 2 distinct numbers-but this would only affect wireless clients.
also do you have the 2nd router set to router and not gateway?
have sp1 firewall turned off on router 2?
how long is the distance between the 2 routers? if it;s a very long run, you might want to try putting a switch in between so your setup looks like

I forgot to add that the channels thing is the FIRST thing I tried. I set them both to channel 7, rebooted WRT and still didn't work.

Yep.

Yes, and the dnsmasque and whatever else the wiki says to uncheck.

About 5 inches, I'm setting it up in my lab right next to everything else.
the channels need to be 2 different numbers like 3 and 6/ setting them both to the same number would not work.
is it possible the WRT54GL is flaky? what version of DD-WRT do you have on it?
the only think that looks like it could complicate matters is the subnet mask. maybe while you are in debugging mode, you could try more basic settings like 192.168.1.x and 255.255.255.0
other than that, looks like everything should work.
goodluck! _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. Screen prints and a network diagram can are also helpful. Before you create a new post, use the search function. Chances are your issue has happened to someone else.
