Hi,

I have a D-Link 885L/R A2 and as per the D-Link site DD-WRT is supported. Unfortunately it isn't exactly, so I did try LEDE but I had to manually insert brcmfmac4366c-pcie.bin. I noticed the 895L which is the bigger brother of 885L has some issues with dd-wrt. Also this is an A2 not a A1.

What is the prognosis for 885L/R A2 for being fully supported?

Thank you,

dg

The 885 has a DD-WRT, just check under the beta builds. There is one from Sept 11, 2017 - but for your model I'm not sure which build is good.

Do your research on the forum.

Kong also has builds for your router, see link below.

Supposedly any build after 30432 on the 880L will brick it, so I have 30432 running well on my 880L. As for the 885L, you're going to have to find out which build is good. Based on the 30432 running well on the 868 and 880, this is likely a good build to try on the 885.

Erm...Shayne...If I recall, you have an 880? Well, someone here got Quark's to work on four of his 880s (myself as well). Check the link Malachi posted, the wait is basically over.

And based on Quark's findings and work done, his build should also work on dg_102's 885. He has a much greater chance of bricking his 885 by going with a recent beta and though i am sure 30432 will work, it's just become too outdated at this point.

I will be trying Quarks's from here:

https://app.box.com/s/b4v1s342ef2dpd52j02lqtuzi1oiipco/folder/38154548439

What about the latest from Kong
http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/TEST/

It looks like it supports 885

Build dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_R8000.bin supports:
#################################################
Asus AC3200

DLINK DIR885
DLINK DIR890

Netgear R8000
#################################################

I could end-up trying both.

Thank you,

Several, unfortunately, who tried Kong's said it bricked there's too (868s and 880s, don't know anyone who tried his on 885s). Some didn't. If you don't mind something happening and can easily de-brick/restore it, then yeah, try Kong. If not, Quark's should surely work.

Try Kong with SSH disabled. If it's working ok, then try to enable SSH and see what happens (unless you don't use it at all). SSH was the major problem causing bricking for both Kong/BS builds.

My 885 is flashed with Kong's 33010M (9/16 version). Working fine. Mine's an A1 rev though.
One thing I noticed about this build (previously was using 32805M). The power LED is now white (like stock) instead of orange.

The 885 and 890 are more related to each other, they use the BCM4709 CPU and BCM4366 WiFi chipset.

The 868 and 880 are also related to each other, they both use the BCM4708 CPU and BCM4360 WiFi chipset.

So I wouldn't assume what works on the 868/880 will work on the 885/890.

quarkysg addressed that actually:

This build should also work for the following D-Link routers:
DIR860
DIR868
DIR880
DIR885
DIR890
DIR895

I have not tested it against the above routers other than DIR868, but from the build files I downloaded from DD-WRT's SVN servers, the firmware images are identical for the above routers.
Of course this only applies when one is already running DD. Smile

Correct Smile

The builds I've uploaded have a drawback though. The newer closed sourced Broadcom chipset drivers is broken for the BCM4331 chipset, which largely affects the 868L router since it has the BCM4331 and BCM4360 wireless chipset. So I have to revert back to an earlier versions of the drivers. Unfortunately the source codes are not available to me so I would be able to do anything about it.

It should not matter much tho, as I believe newer driver releases are meant for newer chipsets. Besides the older drivers works great for the older routers.

The 885 is related to the 895, not the 890.
The 890 has 43602, similar to the R8000 and Asus RT-AC3200.

Finally had some time and I installed the factory to DD-WRT(the latest) and then attempted to install Quarks ddwrt-webflash-dir868-880-r33345b-patched. After finishing the counter was done but I was still seeing the warning so I gave it another good 15 minutes but never came back. I just went in and put again the factory to dd-wrt and I stopped there.

So currently I have:

Router Model
Dlink-DIR885L
Firmware Version
DD-WRT v3.0-r33257 std (08/29/17)
Kernel Version
Linux 4.4.84 #1950 SMP Tue Aug 29 07:17:13 CEST 2017 armv7l

There are some errors but I am not that concerned so far.

Received (RX)
529534 OK, 12 errors
Transmitted (TX)
654491 OK, 829 errors

It has been up for 12 hours. Service, USB, NAS/Samba work great. Port forwarding also great. Wifi 2.4 and 5 with no issues. So far I am very pleased. I will try Kong later on.

One last thing, the router is detected as Dlink-DIR885L but without the A2

Interesting - the factory to ddwrt file for your router is the full size. For the 800L the factory to ddwrt is only 8 MB, so you have to load the full web flash version after which is 24 MB.

Glad you can run the newer versions, if you can then you should be able to load the Kong builds. One user in this thread said they have the September 2016 builds working on their 885L.
