Packages and more (my experiance with v24rc5)

Well I'm pretty much interested in actually being able to expand on the x86 platform. The wall I've hit is my limited linux knowledge I guess.

Things like being able to use an USB-attached storage along with printer sharing, samba2, perl and mrtg, I'm doing on my Asus WL-500gPv1... but I'd like to get rid of it (it's slow!). I could easily find source packages but there's no compiler in x86 DD-WRT... I've been reliant on ipkg for my Asus platform.

Any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated.
