When will wlan be visible

Hi

I've installed x86 full vga version and I want to know at which point will the wlan be visible... before or after activation?

The reason I ask is because I have few cards to choose from and I do not know if any of them work... presently I cannot find any wlan when i scan from my desktop pc and want to know if this is normal.

I do not want to activate unless I am 100% sure my wlan card will work.

So there's no way to test if the wlan card is working prior to activation?
