I am testing out an x86 PC build as my new router (WRT54GL wasnt up to much!) I have got it up and going, setup my hotspot, there will be various AP's attached. I have attempted to draw a diagram below

Internet -- DSL - Firewall - x86 router - Switch -cat5 - AP --WDS-- AP2 --WDS--AP3

will this setup work? (well it did with my WRT54GL) my real question is the un-activated version of x86 only allows LAN traffic so if i attached a wireless AP to it and a client connected to that, would it still do the job? or do i need to buy a licence for it?

Yes, that would work just fine, just as if you were to have 2 wireless routers, 1 as the main AP and 1 as a 2nd AP wired to the main.
