I've installed v24rc5 on an IBM Netvista 8364 (PII, 266 MHz, 256MB RAM), and it runs out of the box. However I have massive IDE performance issues with the connected IDE notebook disc. (All tests read 200-2GB from disc, so caching effects could be neglected):

- Controller says during boot udma33, even so hdparm -I

- Out of the box hdparm -t or dd to /dev/zero gives
4.5 MB/s

- After hdparm -c1 I get
9.5 MB/s

Nothing more could be archived.

For comparison I've installed FreeNAS on another CF card and boot it. Same controller speed is reported udma33.

- A dd test reports 28 MB/s with only 15% CPU usage

Conclusion, there seems to be something suboptimal with the IDE driver in the current ddwrt kernel.

Anybody out there with similar problems?

This evening I will open a bug report for this. It would be nice if it could be fixed in v24.

@ wlanguy -

Were you able to find any resolution? For whatever it is worth I discovered some stuff about the 8364 machines' IDE interface here:

By the way, how did you connect power supply to the notebook disc?[/url]

Would you recommend this? I wouldn't mind trying out the latest build if it fixes a few issues, but am concerned about reliability. I won't be turning any new features on, won't be using DHCP even.

Also how often does Brainslayer get around to posting new builds for x86? I haven't been keeping up to date :)

Thanks

But this isn't an update to a stable version; it is a pre-release version (alpha status?) which hasn't been tested thoroughly yet.

Just wondering if you or others have experience with the latest x86 builds and can comment on their stability and reliability?

Thanks again
