Was wondering if anyone tried running it on a modern x86 architecture (i.e. beside atom).

I have it running fine on D2500, and was wondering if it'll work on a new 5th (or 4th) generation i7 (or at least i3)

Anyone knows if this is done before?

Many thanks in advance

You're absolutely right about routing.

But as an OpenVPN client it's not up to the same performance as a normal PCs.

Especially when your connection to your VPN server is at 100Mbps+.

I have a dedicated UK OpenVPN server with 400Mbps down & up.

I max out my home Internet (100Mbps down / 10Mbps up) connecting to it directly from my 4th gen Core i5 Kubuntu desktop.

However, I get approx 80Mbps when I connect to it via my x86 DD-WRT running on D2500 dual core 1.85Ghz atom.

So I thought, maybe if someone managed to run dd-wrt on a Core i7, it would be really interesting to test demanding OpenVPN performance on such setup.

depending on the build it might not have asm optimizations enabled. you should try different builds

I'm using the latest one
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/23/14) std
(SVN revision 24461)

The D2500 is really fast, I get full 100Mbps dn / 10Mbps up easily without VPN.

It's the OpenVPN that is slightly slower (I'm guessing due to encryption / decryption)

I feel the current build I have is really stable, do you think I should still downgrade?

Also, have you heard of someone that managed to run dd-wrt on a Core i7 ? I'm really curious to know.

Many thanks in advance
