I have a (old, yes I know) Linksys WRT600Nv1.1 and I'm running DD-WRT 08-12-10-r14929. Is there any good reason to update to a newer revision? And if so (security reasons, etc.) could anyone who is using a WRT600N tell me what the newest version they are running? This is the only router in my house and I cannot brick it, otherwise I would just start testing random revisions.

I did notice that someone mentioned that 32597 bricked their 600N here: https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1086510&highlight=wrt600n#1086510

And the latest revision that I can find someone reporting that is working is 04-06-2017-r31825.

I am currently getting full speeds for my Internet connection, 60/6Mbps through the 2.4GHz spectrum, so I really think that I should only upgrade if there are security issues.

TIA,

This is your main gateway router? I would suggest to use the 31825 since you found a report of it working, but depends on your feature use and paranoia level. Smile Here is some CVE info for DD.

Yes that build has an issue w/ httpd. The next build should fix that, but more importantly will add an accelerated NAT driver, which may not improve your speed yet, but should reduce latency a bit. It appears the limit for that model at stock speed is around 80 Mb/s.

@jwh7,

Thanks for the info. Yes this is my main gateway, I suppose that my main concern was if there was any security issues that needed to be addressed like right now.

LOL, my "paranoia" level is pretty low. I am one of those that just needs my router to connect to the Internet. The features are just a bonus, if I ever get time to look at them.

I had issues with this router before upgrading it with DD-WRT where I was having to unplug it at least once a day to reset it and get the full speeds out of it with the updated stock firmware. Since flashing it with DD-WRT, I have had no issues with it.

The speed is not really a concern for right now. 60Mbps is the fastest that I can get here so apparently it can keep up. FWIW, Windows is reporting 130Mbps (through the router).

I am going to go ahead and upgrade to 31825 and tread water there until the next time that I get around to looking at it. Next time I won't wait as long.

Thanks again for the help.

Turn on access restrictions, USB + samba + ftp, VPN, QOS and speed WAN to LAN drops to about 50-60mbps.

for internet connections to max 60 mbps WRT600N is very good stuff.
