The normal answer is that a donated router is required to add support. If you're extremely lucky, then serial boot log, and related info, could be sufficient. Very unlikely though, esp since I thought TP-Link locked down all their routers, due to the FCC ruling last year.

something i learnt over the years here, if i want to use dd-wrt, i buy a router that is already supported by dd-wrt and is popular. also, get a router with a good amount of flash memory for future proofing. specs of this router look great, hoping you guys get support, though as jwh7 said above, the usual answer is "a donated router is required".

if i really need dd-wrt i would return it and get something already supported.

The hardware specs of this model are quite powerful and the price is right. I hope in the future to see DD-WRT running on this device. I would be interested in chipping in for buying one of these routers for donation.

Radio chips are different, which might just be a matter of a slight kernel config change?

TP-Link Archer C2300 seems to have the same chips (CPU, radio and Eth) as the Netgear R8000P:

https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Netgear_R8000P

There are some comments that there is work in progress to have DD-WRT running on the R8000P:

So hopefully this work could be leveraged for the Archer C2300.

The router seems to be an excellent value for money and I'm really considering getting it. The only thing that prevents me doing this - lack of DD-WRT support

This is a great router, how does one go about requesting a compatible firmware?

This router comes with Trend Micro Antivirus installed as well as openVPN and PPTP VPN server. The native firmware is 39.30 MB. Great value, powerful, GPL. My opinion, great router for DD-WRT development. Can't wait to see how this comes out.

Sure it is a really good router special with high RAM and good clock cpu. But due to ddwrt develop team has no router in hand to create and test fw. If ddwrt can able success release a fw for this router then it is amazing. look likely i am hearing a joke story.
