Hi Router Gurus,
I have a R6400v2 that I bricked while trying to flash to DD-WRT. Currently it is stuck in a bootloop, and so I opened it up and hooked up a serial connection. In putty I can see the router boot, and fail. I can cancel the boot, and get it into the tftp mode, and I can sucessfully put a file to the router using the windows command line, however once it does, nothing happens. In putty I get the following:
Start TFTP server
Reading :: Done. 6852666 bytes read
Board ID : U12H332T30_NETGEAR
Image ID : U12H332T00_NETGEAR
Reading::
My understanding is that the router should boot at this point, but it doesn't, instead it will stay there until I reboot it (left overnight, no different) at which point I'm back to the boot loop. Tried flashing with the stock netgear firmware with no difference, although the image ID was then U12H332T20_NETGEAR.
Any ideas for a path forward? Seems as though its failing a check, but I don't know how to get it to accept the image.
The official Netgear firmware for R6400v2 has the T00 in their header.
U12H332T00_NETGEARHDR0
I just downloaded the latest couple versions to verify this.
As egc mentioned in his guide, you have to use a hex editor to change the firmware header from T00 to T30 (to match your boardid) if you are uploading using tftp because the cfe will check. Kong's r6400v2OTP.chk has T30. _________________
