I've reposted my issue from the Advanced Forum to here as suggested by Per Yngve Berg...

The syslog of my R8500 is being filled with the same endless warning...

Apr 18 14:45:21 R8500 - R35681 kern.warn kernel: br0: received packet on eth3 with own address as source address

I'm getting the same message, on avergage, every 6 seconds. I'm only using the 2 aggregate ports (what i assume are ethernet ports 1 & 2).

The router (R8500) is being used as a dedicated VPN router with it's own LAN seperate to the main router (R9000). This VPN router gets it's internet connection from port 6 of the R9000 into the yellow 'internet' port on the VPN router. I use the 'Advanced Routing' tab on the DDWRT of the main router for this setup. Therefore, the WAN IP address of the VPN router is 192.168.10.2, given by the DHCP of the R9000.

The only 3 wired ports used on the VPN router are:

1. Internet Port is connected to Port 6 of R9000
2. Port 1 is connected to a powerline
3. Port 2 is attached to a Raspberry Pi used only as a Darkweb wifi hotspot.

Other than upgrading to later versions of DDWRT (currently Brainslayers R35681), I've never had this issue before.

Here is my bridging configuration:

root@R8500 - R35681:~# ifconfig | grep HWaddr
br0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41
br0:0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41
br1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41
br2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:43
eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:44
eth3 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:45
tun1 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
vlan1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41
vlan2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2C:30:33:F4:D5:42
wl0.1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2E:30:33:F4:D5:44
wl1.1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2E:30:33:F4:D5:45
wl1.2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 2E:30:33:F4:D5:47

Per Yngve Berg (Guru) said:

'This is a bridging loop caused by a misconfiguration.

It looks like both eth0 and eth3 is assigned to br0 and they are connected to the same VLAN in the switch.

br0 sends a packet with MAC 2C:30:33:F4:D5:41 out on eth0, which them is received on eth3 by br0.

If you want to go deeper into the hardware of the router, it's better answered in the Atheros Forum.
'

What I'm unsure of, is why eth1 and eth2 don't have the same issue and whether this is a software or hardware misconfiguration.

So, what configuration do I need to change to stop the syslog from filling up with these endless messages. Thanks...

I've tried to find some information about resolving this issue but with no luck. If I need to post extra info, let me know. Can anyone help me with this bridging loop misconfiguration? Thanks...

Try to change the MAC on the bridges from 41 to 50,51,52

I changed the MAC addresses for eth3 and w1.1 in the Port Setup of the bridging section. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for your help Per Yngve Berg.
