28 dbm is the maximum

consider that the input dialog does not take care about the ubiquiti power offset, but the txpower info does.

so if you input 10 as output power for example you will see that it just shows 20 then (the ubiquiti poweroffset for xr9 is 10 dbm)

On my xr2 with an 8dbi antenna I am only getting like 60 feet of coverage. Do I need to turn the power down.
How do I find out the mW output of the cards?

why does iwlist say that I can only run at 50mW? is that accurate? My xr2 is capable of 600mW

ubnt has a 10 dbm power offset on the xr2. so always add 10 dbm on the returned dbm value and then recalculate it to mw. the webinterface does this automaticly on the status screen
and please check your antenna and antenna settings (secondary, primary etc). i have 4 xr2 on a avila gateworks board here which has a great coverage more than 60 feet. in fact some kilometers using 14 dbm sector antennas. but consider that your laptop or clients needs the same powerfull card to talk back even if the xr2 has a great sensitivity. but transmitting with high power in just one direction makes no real sense

I have been reading all day and I think my problem may be actual current to the 2 radios I am using on the alix board. Have you ever heard of this problem?

Can you suggest a particular power supply to use with a Avils 2348-2 that will provide sufficient power for potentially full use of the cards or will a standard passive poe with 12V 1.2A do it?

Thank you so very much in advance.

it will work on alix as well. i have a alix board too which has a xr5 installed. if the power supplier makes problems the firmware the firmware or wireless driver within the firmware will just crash. so it will work or it wont work, there is nothing in between.

but on the other hand 1.2 should not be enough to handle a alix board and 2 xr2 cards at 12 volt.
since its just 14.4 watt. this could be problematic.
so you can see instabilities on your board if the power adapter is not able to provide stable power

so you should upgrade your psu to 18v which will be accepted by the alix, too

It was a power issue. I went out and picked up a variable power source and tested the board to see what kind of power I was delivering to the radios and it turned out that I just didn't have enough with the old power bricks.

Thanks for all your help

This Wistron DCMA82 or CM11 cards have only 24.5dbm output power. You can use 24dbm at ddwrt with changing the regulatory domain to USA,but no more...
