Hey dear all! Hopefully, some of you have some experience with this, because I'm very... noob to this.
Here's what I try to do:
I'm trying to install DD-WRT on a Mikrotik RB260GSP, that's based on a CSS106 chip. Software version of SwitchOS is 2.16.
I think I well researched my problem on the dd-wrt website, wiki and forum and nothing came of it.
After referencing both the Router database and the list of compatible routers (and also trying to make sense of the many FAQs, one of which told me explicitly NOT to use the Router Database??? - why have it, then?) I downloaded several images from this page:
After flashing the Router, the normal Mikrotik webinterface shows.... not the DD-WRT interface...
All that changes is the version: from 2.16 to 2.7p! Downgrading back to the original 2.16 works like a charm, but none of the images I've tried have worked...
I can't find any documentation on this, neither on the dd-wrt forums, wiki or on Mikrotiks forums... this model seems to be rather exotic...?
One thing I am guessing is that, as the CSS106 chip of this router is x86 compatible, maybe one of the x86 images could work? maybe?
I would very much appreciate any help or advice you can give.
Not even enough flash space to flash a micro image. A little bit of research would've avoided a lot of hassle.

It's quite obvious now - I just, for some reason, based my purchase on the simple fact, that the Mikrotik RB2xxx devices are listed in both the List for compatible devices AND the Router Download page...
The now very obvious fact of lacking memory has eluded both me and a (otherwise very tech-savvy!) friend of mine. We both feel a bit stupid now. Well. Back to Amazon it goes...
I don't need Wifi, so the Mikrotik routers seem to be a nice pick!
What do you think about this one here:

or even the Mikrotik RB760iGS?? It seems to tick all the boxes...
880 MHz Dual Core
256 MB of RAM
16 MB of Flash - although this seems to be very close to a No Go??
Card slot - for SD though
For a reason i cannot yet see, the listed compatible Mikrotik routers do not include the company's RB7xxx line - but the ones listed as compatible (RB600, RB800 & RB1000) are all discontinued!!
Nobody has donated any other Mikrotik products other than the ones currently supported, most likely...
Oh... ok, I just was made aware, that all testing on potential new, compatible devices is donation based! Oh dear...
Right now, I sadly don't have the funds to provide something like a test device to the community.
But, for the sake of the argument, bear with me for a second:
the Mikrotik "hEX S" (RB760iGS) is rocking a MediaTek MT7621A CPU, 16MB of Flash and 256MB of RAM, same as at about 15 other supported devices! And quite a few of the D-Link devices also have 16MB/256MB of memory.
So, shouldn't it be at least theoretically be possible to install DD-WRT on it?

Theoretically possible, but I wouldn't attempt any hacky method to install DD-WRT. Officially supported firmware image port is the ideal way to go. Unofficial support methods tend to end badly if the device bricks.
