Ok, so since i never could get a response about a home use copy i went ahead and bought the x86 version.

as soon as i activate i can now actually test to see if my hardware works correctly.. and of course it doesn't.

its an MSI fuzzy lx800 amd geode based board with 2 onboard realtek nics.

as soon as i hit any sort of high network load i get a panic and the thing reboots. anyone got one of these boards that can validate or disprove me?
I even tried a working install that was in my old hardware, exact same result. this tells me its the board and hardware itself. I've tried new ram, and removing the wireless.

hopefully now that you guys have my money i can get someone to notice me..

It started as soon as i got done configuring. hitting speedtest.net from anywhere behind the router will panic the kernel instantly. though it will sit and idle or route normal "web browsing" traffic just fine.

I've since discovered some clues. There is a certain state that the nics (drivers) where it does not set the line speed correctly. since we don't get ethtool the only way i could get it to work was to completely flash the device.
Currently i've got this unit in a working state as far as my tests are conserned. Another forum user and i hav ethe same device and we both suspected the nics. I believe its the driver that is loading. that isn't negotiating correctly and when massive traffic comes through it pukes.

my methodology for finding this out was to configure each thing one at a time till i could make it freak out. it freaked out when i was configuring the LAN (eth1) to something besides default. on the next reboot it only came up as 10mbs.

Its comcast cable with a static IP coming from a transparent SMC 8014 router/modem. again no issues from it.
from eth1 (lan) the wrt is connected to a dell powerconnect 5224 gbit 24pt gbit switch on the lan side. which has direct access to servers who do RRAS for the rest of the net.
on the WAN side there is a little 8pt netgear gbit switch just in front of the SMC modem for other external devices with direct IP access. again the setup has been tried and true for months, even years.

another clue i believe is here. when the problem is present one continually sees this this on the console.
eth1: opperation not supported

when it is fine, the console is silent.
