As I travel over the world, I am always excited to find free hot spots next to where I stay.

I would like to pay back all these good people that open up their wireless networks and do the same with my WRT54G v2.0 router.

As I learned that DD-WRT v24 supports virtual SSIDs feature, I upgraded my firmware and configured it as shown on the picture in attachment.

The "wonderland" SSID is WEP-protected, the "usenotabuse" SSID is unprotected and with "AP isolation" on.

Unfortunately, my notebook only detects the "wonderland" SSID, not the "usenotabuse" one, as I expected.

See my topic here http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=38284. The page I'm linking to describes the probable cause of your problem (on page 3).

Also the article I'm linking to explains in more detail how to totaly isolate your second WLAN/SSID from the rest of your network.

Note what I write in my post tho, this functionality seems to be broken in all releases after v24 final.

It works somewhat in the VINT build. Use that on the Gv2.

I am using v24 final, but it is not working, still. Also, only the 'usenotabuse' SSID is broadcasted, "wonderland" is not.

When I do a network scan with "wlist wlan0 scanning", it outputs

Code:
          Cell 04 - Address: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
                    ESSID:""
                    Mode:Master
                    Channel:9
                    Frequency:2.452 GHz (Channel 9)
                    Quality=100/100  Signal level=-37 dBm  Noise level=-97 dBm
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 11 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s
                              24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s; 9 Mb/s
                              12 Mb/s; 48 Mb/s
                    Extra:tsf=000000000b527185

where the MAC address is the one of my router, the ESSID is "" and not "usenotabuse", and the Encryption setting is "on" while I configured it as "off".

Will try the VINT build, though.

Oh, I just noticed the help text on the Wireless Security tab saying

Code:
Security Mode:
You may choose from Disable, WEP, WPA Personal, WPA Enterprise, or RADIUS. All devices on your network must use the same security mode.

So, I guess that the mode of operation I was expecting to get is actually not supported all, right?

wrong

Latest VINT build supports unencrypted virtual SSID. I tested it myself.

Hm... I just installed the dd-wrt.v24-9517_VINT_std.bin and it gives the same result as with dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin.

I think it is time to give up. I have no clue how to make this work.

Just in case, I have a "Broadcom BCM4712 chip rev 1" chipset, can you give me your /proc/cpuinfo contents? Let's see if it is different.
