I flashed my Asus WL-500W with 11650 and everything was working great. I enabled ALL the options under the USB tab and again another brick.
Ive tried both a hard reset and a 30/30/30.
Ive also tried using ping -n 30 with me during the ping unplugginging, replugged, reset it, DCHP/static IP and the messages were:
Reply from 192.168.1.10: Destination host unreachable.
Request timed out.
PING: transmit failed, error code 1231.
pock says that I have to serial connect the router to fix this. I IMAGINE that this is the jtag method which would void my warranty which I rather not do. And, from the looks of it, I need a parellel port which I do not have in this computer.
Any solution/tips/help/comments/etc would be appreciated.

When you first flashed the router....did you load mini_asus.trx file FIRST...then hard reset and upgrade to mega or did you go straight to mega from the Asus restoration utility....I don't have one of these units...but all indications are that you must load the mini_asus.trx file first for the upgrade to be successful.

I followed the instructions to the min detail so yes, I loaded first mini then thru the GUI upgraded to mega.
It seems the Pololu product is outta stock...
Im seeing that Im going to have to make my own and it seems kinda difficult.
Is there any chance something could go wrong and I could end up with a brick/worthless router?

so is this method an alternative to getting a jtag cable?
Jtag is not really an alternative, as there is no jtag connection available....so serial is the only method. _________________ Warning: I'm "out of my element!"

Which would you recommend of both of these?
I believe if I grab one I would need also a female serial cable that connects to my router right?
And can I just electric tape the wires to my router? Soldering isnt my thing.

Could have sworn that the Asus WL-500W had JTAG
On a related topic, whats the advantages and disadvantages of JTAG vs serial?
How could you possibly think that, after reading pock's thread?
On the wl500W, the advantage of serial is that it can be done...
(The disadvantage is that it can't be used to flash CFEs, when they need to be replaced.)
And no, you can't "electrical tape" connections for this. Taking shortcuts like that is why you have bricked your router twice. Do things properly. _________________ Warning: I'm "out of my element!"
